This will make you feel dumb
Did you know that in the average human lifespan of 80 years, your brain processes only 10 terrabytes of data? That means that in your whole LIFETIME you could only go through the information held in a mere TEN hellacious riders email accounts.
Simile Generator
It’s called an idea generator, but I found that the end result is more like fancy similes than ideas. It takes a while, is a waste of time but is an interesting idea. Pite they didn’t execute it too well.

Finally…
I promised Henwood I’d give him the scoop on the stories of the new iPod but I must inform you with a happy heart the the U2 iPod has disappeared. I have tears of joy streaming down my face.
79p forever
Steve Jobs has refused, on the request of several major record companies, to change the prices on the iTunes music store. Check this for more.

Mmmm…Memory…
You can’t eat iPod shuffles; Apple confirmed this soon after the release. So? you thought, no one could be stupid enough to eat an iPod shuffle. Clearly people are stupid though.
A drunk guy walked into a phone shop and, after a short disagreement with the sales representative, ate the phone’s memory “so no one would get [his] personal information.” No lie…

iPod Nano
So…the mini’s dead. The most popular MP3 player in the world is dead and gone and will be sold as a retro classic.
And in its place? The iPod Nano. Sixty-two percent smaller than the mini, a third of the size of the regular iPod, the nano has been described as a “Shuffle with a screen” (and a doubled price tag, they hastened to add). It comes in 2GB (500 songs) and 4GB (1000 songs) models. It also has the click wheel and comes in black and white. I do like this thing, but I think it lacks mini’s “fun factor” and the sleekness of the shuffle.
Yes, they have sold at least one model…
I have just returned from my holiday. They say that people go on holiday to see new things and relax, and I did see something new.
Lying on Simon Spilsbury’s charmingly authentic Tuscan kitchen worktop, lay a most frightening object.
And yes, he paid for it.
Gifworks.com
A useful hint for people who are struggling to get by using only MS paint and don’t want to download any fancy software. Transparent GIFs are incredibly useful and there was (something like) worldwide uproar when the feature to make them was removed from MS paint. Now you can use GIFworks to make GIFs, that you can upload from your own computer, transparent. It’s all online so you don’t have to download any software. Very useful.
PS. Have you looked at the new charming “flavours” (stylesheets) yet?
Digg Podcasts
I’d find it hard to believe that no one has heard about these yet, but just in case I thought I’d better inform you all. Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht (yes, you know who they are) present these podcasts which feature the most frequently dugg stories. The podcasts are undoubtedly excellent and you can subscribe to the feed here.
A Fabulous Article
I must say, The Best Page In The Universe must be one of my favourite sites that ever existed. Recently, Maddox posted a fantastic article about blogging. Sure, he demeans blogging and bloggers, not to mention anything involved with them, but his writing is so brilliant that I can do nought but link to this true piece of brilliant observation and dry humour. Enjoy, and feel free to disagree.
Also, I would recommend this article to Thomas Henwood and Charlie Williams. Or anyone else for that matter.
Windows Vista

Finally…Microsoft have released Windows Vista (codename Longhorn) on their website. Apparently Microsoft’ll release the first beta in early August to IT professionals. There is no release date, save “arriving 2006″. Click
here to see more. Well, not much more to be honest. Most of the space is taken up by two people on a beach or an iceberg or something equally unrelated to computers.
Possible Jail Sentence for Sasser Creator
A German teenager has admitted to creating the Sasser worm, that virus that messed up countless computer systems across the globe (including mine) and forced over 400 post offices in Taiwan to resort to pencil and paper. Sven Jaschan was charged with computer sabotage, disrupting public services and illegally altering data.
He is being treated as a minor because, although he is 19 now, he was 17 when he created it by modifying a program created to combat various other viruses. He will therefore probably escape the maximum jail sentence of five years. The trial is going to last an estimated three days!!! THREE DAYS!!! Is it a murder trial?? If you’re interested in finding out more, here are links to the Sophos report and a Guardian Unlimited article.
UPDATE: So, he got out of jail free. Instead of prison, he received a sentence of one year and nine months on probation and 30 hours community service. Sucker.
Speed up iTunes when mounting iPod Shuffle
Isn’t it annoying how long it takes for iTunes to recognise the fact that your iPod Shuffle is plugged in? Luckily, there’s a way to speed this up.
- Open Search and enter “iTuneshelper.exe”.
- When you find it, drag the file to your desktop/quicklaunch.
- When you plug in your iPod Shuffle and open iTunes, clicking on this will speed up the connection to your library.
If you’re looking for information on what to do if your iPod Shuffle won’t mount into iTunes, we recommend this Apple Discussions thread.
